Workshop: Old ears - new eyes

Baroque music staged with the Thalia Ensemble and the artist Ophelia Flassig

Date: July 31 to August 6, 2024

Together with artist Ophelia Flassig and singer Caroline Adler, the Thalia Ensemble combines 17th century vocal and instrumental music with modern art and performance art. Inspired by baroque traditions of dress, art and performance, modern art is used to create a modern setting in which old works by composers such as Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber, Johann Heinrich Schmelzer and Georg Muffat are performed according to the ideal of historical performance practice.

The Thalia Ensemble developed from the Bavarian Youth Baroque Orchestra and consists of active or former members of the orchestra under the direction of Martin Schneider. The young artists, aged between 18 and 26, perform on historical instruments or replicas of historical instruments. The ensemble specializes in historical performance practice with the aim of presenting early music in the context of its time, but with young fun and verve. The ensemble consists of Martin Schneider (violin), Galatea Flassig (violin), Cornelia Schneider (viola), Augustin Geer (violoncello).
